Gen John Scales

UPDATE   UPDATE   UPDATE
Due to an unforeseen illness, our original guest speaker, Mr. Philip Leigh, will not be able to give his lecture on the Causes of the Civil War on Thursday, March 10, 2022.  Pinch hitting is our very own, Gen. John Scales.

In the last year of the war, the Union undertook two large cavalry raids that started in North Alabama and were aimed at “The Heart of Dixie”. The first, led by Major General Lovell Rousseau in 1864, inflicted serious but not catastrophic damage to the railroad supplying the Army of Tennessee, then defending Atlanta. The second, led by Major General James Wilson in March and April of 1865, defeated Confederate forces decisively. Find out where the raids took place, how they were opposed, and their overall effects in a presentation by John Scales.
