Thomas Jessee



Join us for a compelling lecture exploring the early life and family history of Robert E. Lee before the outbreak of the Civil War. Mr. Jessee’s presentation will provide insight into Lee’s upbringing, his connections to one of Virginia’s most prominent families, and the influences that shaped his character and values. We will gain a deeper understanding of the personal, social, and cultural environment in which Lee lived, long before he assumed his role with the Confederate Army for which he is best remembered today. By examining his family ties and early experiences, we can better appreciate the complexities of the man behind the uniform. This speech offers a thoughtful, educational perspective on a pivotal figure in American history, framed within the context of his formative years.

Thomas Lee Jessee, a native Virginian and a transplanted Floridian, has been a dedicated reenactor since 1969. He has been the Commanding General of the Confederate Forces for the annual reenactment of the Battle of Olustee. Thomas is active member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. As a longtime student of General Lee, Thomas has portrayed General Lee in various venues throughout the US over the years. Mr Jessee was approved by the National Park Service to portray General Robert E. Lee throughout the national park system. He was seen recently at the 160th Anniversary of Appomattox reenactment in Virginia and is featured in the new Appomattox Visitors Center film shown to the public daily.
