Kurt Vetters is a local artist and author known for his vivid historical paintings and novels focusing on Civil War themes. Born in Sheffield and raised in Birmingham, Vetters is a former U.S. Army Cavalry Captain and Civil War reenactor whose passion for military history inspires much of his work. After a long career in medical sales, Vetters rekindled his artistic journey during a retreat in North Carolina, leading to a late-blooming career as both a painter and writer. His Civil War battle paintings, done in close collaboration with local historians, are featured in regional heritage projects and public exhibitions. Vetters is also the author of two historical novels, Confederate Winter and Freedom Spring, and is actively engaged in the Florence, Alabama arts and history community including our neighboring roundtable, the North Alabama Civil War Round Table.
